Core Values

Seven principles that guide our work

Non-negotiable ethical and methodological standards applied to every course, project, and manuscript.

01 · The Foundational Principle
Core Anchor

Research first

Research is the core; tools serve it.

Research remains the core of everything we do. Statistics, programming and technology are used only where they improve the quality, efficiency or accessibility of research.

Standards:Question-drivenTools serve inquiryRigorous quality
02

Rigor

Methods fit the question and are checked.

Methods are chosen to fit the question. Designs, analyses and interpretations are justified, checked and reported accurately.

Principle 02
03

Integrity

Ethical research and honest authorship.

We practise and teach ethical research, honest authorship, correct citation and responsible publication, and we avoid predatory outlets.

Principle 03
04

Transparency and reproducibility

Work others can follow and repeat.

Work is documented so that others can follow, verify and repeat it, using reproducible tools and reporting guidelines.

Principle 04
05

Critical thinking

Appraise evidence, don't just summarize it.

Students learn to appraise and question evidence rather than simply collect or summarize it.

Principle 05
06

Learning by doing

Every module produces a real output.

Every major module produces a real research output that students can reuse.

Principle 06
07

Collaboration across disciplines

Different perspectives, stronger research.

Different academic perspectives strengthen research; we create the conditions for people to work together.

Principle 07

The research journey

Seven steps from a first idea to a research community.

  1. 01

    Research Idea

Start from a problem worth studying.

  2. 02

    Research Question

Frame it with PICO or PECO and find the gap.

  3. 03

    Evidence & Methods

Search the literature and choose a design.

  4. 04

    Analysis

Clean, analyze and interpret data in R.

  5. 05

    Scientific Writing

    Report to the relevant guideline.

  6. 06

    Publication

Select a journal, submit and revise.

  7. 07

    Research Community

    Keep collaborating on new projects.

The Academy

A research curriculum, not a lecture series.

Nine modules from research foundations to scientific writing and evidence synthesis. Methods are taught because a research question needs them, and each module ends in a real output.
